Do You Have a Water Leak?
Sometimes it can be difficult to identify if your plumbing system has a problem. You can typically notice a slow-draining shower or malfunctioning garbage disposal. Can you, however, identify if there's a water leak somewhere in the piping? We're constantly helping our clients maintain the functionality of their plumbing, but we've noticed that many don't know they have a water leak until it becomes an emergency. If you notice any of these signs, give us a call because you may have a water leak damaging your home.
- MOLD AND MILDEW SPOTS: Standing water from leaks can cause a hotbed of bacteria to begin growing. Mold and mildew are the direct results of this, so if you've noticed a new mold spot or an excessive amount of it, it could be a sign of a broken pipe.
- DARK WET SPOTS: Wet spots are easy to identify, they'll be slightly darker than the rest of the wall or ceiling, and in extreme cases, there'll be cracks. If you see these, you have a leak, and the best course of action is to have a professional go over immediately to avoid having the problem get worse.
- INCREASE IN YOUR WATER BILL: If your water bill is going up despite no change in how much water you use, it could be due to water leaking out. If water is leaking, the bill will reflect it as if it's being used. So any inexplicable change in the monthly amount you pay could be due to a hidden water leak.
- FOUNDATION CRACKS: If water has been leaking for long enough you may begin to see cracks in the foundation of your home. This is more extreme and is usually a sign of an excessive amount leaking out. This damage, however, can be hard to reduce or reverse, so it's best to stay aware of your water usage before it gets to this point in order to avoid a major problem.
